About the Project
106 Street and 76 Avenue form a crossroad in the mixed residential and commercial neighbourhood of Queen Alexandra in the Greater Strathcona area. The roads then fan out in four directions connecting many neighbourhoods in Edmonton’s inner south west.
Discussions during the Queen Alexandra Neighbourhood Renewal project determined that a longer stretch than just the crossroads would benefit from more rigorous concept planning in advance of construction in Queen Alexandra.
As such, the City has initiated a concept planning study for these two important collector roadways with the following scope: 76 Avenue from 104 Street to Saskatchewan Drive; and 106 Street from Whitemud Drive to Saskatchewan Drive. Both are 2-lane undivided roads with on-street bike routes identified in the Bicycle Transportation Plan as components of the City’s Major Bicycle Grid, as they span significant distances through the city and connect major destinations. 76 Avenue and 106 Street south of 76 Avenue are also bus routes and have on-street parking.
The project timeline is aggressive as many of the neighbourhoods within the scope of this project will be undergoing Neighbourhood Renewal in the near future. Significant changes are coming to many of the neighbourhoods within the scope of this Collector concept plan. In addition to the 2015 – 2017 Queen Alexandra Neighbourhood Renewal, McKernan and Belgravia are scheduled for construction in 2017, while Strathcona, Allendale, Garneau, Pleasantview and Empire Park will go through the process at a later date.

Where Are We Today
Public engagement is an important component of developing the concept plan for this project. The communities in partnership with the City, worked together to build the engagement plan for this pilot project, called Engage 106-76. A project website was created to engage the broader public.
Although the project has had on-going public engagement since April 2015, more work still needs to be done particularly in the neighbourhoods of Empire Park and Pleasantview. Public engagement activities will occur in the coming months. Event details will be posted on this website once they are confirmed. If you sign up as a Community Partner on the project webpage, you will also receive email notifications of events.
Community Partners are essential to the success of the Engage 106-76 project. As a Community Partner, you are able to:
- Provide valuable information about the local experience of 106 Street and 76 Avenue
- Contribute to how the roadways may function in the future
- Receive news about the project and public involvement event details as they become available
The project team is reviewing the feedback from the April 2016 Open House and will be refining the draft concept plan. The recommended concept through the Queen Alexandra neighbourhood only will be available for review online by this summer.
The concept plans for 76 Avenue and 106 Street are anticipated to be complete by this summer in advance of construction at the crossroads in 2017.
