Local Motion - Eco-Friendly Transportation

As gas prices rise, roads become busier and people become more aware of their carbon footprints, many are rethinking their travel options. They are choosing EcoMobile options - walking, cycling, ride-sharing or public transit.
What is EcoMobility?
The Global Alliance for EcoMobility describes EcoMobility as mobility without dependency on the private car. Benefits of EcoMobility include:
- Health - Incorporating physical activity into daily tasks and avoiding the frustration of sitting in traffic.
- Accessible and Flexible - It includes many travel options to fit individual needs.
- Good for the Environment - Fewer single passenger vehicles on the road means less pollution.
- Vibrant and Livable - Using your neighbourhood parks, pathways and sidewalks, reconnecting with your community.
What is the LocalMotion Project?
In 2009, the City undertook the LocalMotion Demonstration Project in the neighbourhood of Parkallen. This unique eco-mobility initiative brought together diverse partners to reduce car-dependency and strengthen communities.
Participate in the Challenge
We are currently working on future plans for LocalMotion to encourage other communities to get involved. LocalMotion project items like the Bicycle Try-It Library, the kilometre logs and community carbon reduction challenge are being considered for future events.
