111 Street Intersection Temporary Partial Closures
Routes 6, 9, 17, 32, 33, 34, 38, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 50, 52, 55, 73, 74, 80, 301, 304, 336, 820, 887, 889, 891, 892, 893, 894, 898, and 923 will experience delays starting Monday, February 8 until further notice.
During this time, the 111 Street intersections at 29A, 34, 37, 40, 43, Whitemud Drive, 49, 51, 54 , 57 and 61 Avenue will close periodically and temporarily to Eastbound & Westbound vehicle and pedestrian traffic for wire and vehicle testing of the South LRT extension.
- Intersections will periodically close for up to five minutes while maintenance vehicles travel through the intersections.
- No left turns in any direction will be permitted during the partial closures.
- Northbound & Southbound will be allowed to flow but vehicles will NOT be allowed to turn left through the intersections during the partial closures.
- Eastbound & Westbound through traffic will NOT be permitted during the partial closures.
- Eastbound & Westbound traffic will ONLY be allowed to turn right through the intersections during the partial closures.
- Precise timing of the partial closures cannot be scheduled as it will depend on the overall progress of commissioning.
Initially, trains will travel at speeds no greater than 8 km/hr. Traffic gates will NOT be activated during partial closures. Edmonton Transit System inspectors will manually close 111 Street LRT intersections as trains pass through.
Subsequent tests, traffic signals and gates WILL be activated to signal the closing of intersections as trains travel through at increasing speeds
