Route 561 - Night Ride service for Whyte Avenue
Night Ride pilot service traveling from Whyte Avenue to Southgate via the University of Alberta campus has been designed to help patrons and workers from Whyte Avenue to get home more easily and safely after closing time.
The pilot operates from January 6 to April 14, 2012.
Bus service runs Friday and Saturday nights only, from 1:30am to approximately 3:30am.
Pick Up
North side of Whyte Avenue between 104 and 109 Streets.
Pick Up and Drop Off
- All regular stops on the route to the University and Southgate Transit Centre.
- Taxis will be available at Southgate to carry riders to further destinations.
- Southgate Transit Centre is closed so public washrooms are not available.
- LRT is not running.
- Customers are also able to leave the bus along 51 Avenue from Southgate Transit Centre to Gateway Boulevard.
The ETS Stop Request Program is in effect for this service. The program allows riders to exit a bus at a safe location other than at a bus stop on the route. Riders need to tell the operator at least one stop before the location where they want to get off the bus. Remember that the operator must be able to stop safely to accommodate the request.
Fares
- One way cash fare $3

The pilot will be assessed at the end of the three months to determine if there is enough demand to continue the service or possibly expand it to other busy entertainment zones in the city.
The Night Ride pilot service is provided by Responsible Hospitality Edmonton, Edmonton taxis and Edmonton Transit System.
