With the 2010 opening of the South LRT expansion to Southgate and Century Park, the LRT will travel nearly 20 km through our city.
LRT contributes to the vitality of our city by making our festivals, parades, concerts, shopping areas and sporting events accessible to everyone. The City of Edmonton continues to expand the LRT to ensure our transportation system provides citizens mobility and choice.
Efficient
LRT is one of the fastest and safest ways to travel in Edmonton. Trains operate at a maximum speed of 70 kph and run every 5 minutes during peak hours.
Safe
LRT security is constantly reviewed and upgraded, using state-of-the-art technology to maximize customer and employee safety on the system.
Affordable
The LRT can help you save money on fuel, parking, and vehicle maintenance. ETS transit pass customers also benefit from the federal transit pass tax credit.
Accessible
LRT offers special accessibility features for customers with mobility difficulties, including elevators, escalators, automatic doors, downtown pedway, hands-free emergency phones, and wheelchair accessible washrooms.
Environmentally Friendly
LRT trains operate on electricity, which can help reduce air pollution from vehicle emissions and green house gasses. A transit rider creates 65% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than an auto user for the same trip.
