LRT Line Names Approved

LRT Line Names Approved

It is with great pleasure, following an extensive public input process, we announce the names of the current and future LRT lines.

At the beginning of this one year journey, we asked the public to provide naming suggestions. We received over 900 submissions and a total of more than 3,000 names. We shortlisted the names and sent them off to market research. Based on the research findings and recommendations, the City of Edmonton Naming Committee unanimously voted to approve 5 names!

The Transportation Services Department (ETS, Transportation Planning and LRT Construction and Design branches) are happy to release the following names.

  • Capital Line
  • Metro Line
  • Energy Line
  • Valley Line
  • Festival Line

Why Name the Lines?

Naming the LRT lines benefits not only commuters, but the community as a whole:

  • The LRT expansion will eventually result in multiple lines. It is important that commuters are able to navigate the system intuitively, safely and conveniently. Having a means to differentiate between these lines is critical.
  • A public transit system frequently plays a central role in shaping the image and reputation of a city. This is a great opportunity to help shape how we want Edmonton to be identified, both on a local and national/global scale.
