Stadium Station Art
New LRT Art
(from January 2002 In Transit)
We were fortunate to add four new pieces to our LRT art collection last year.
Thanks to the City's Percent for Art policy, we added works of art into Clareview and Belvedere stations. Working with the Edmonton Arts Council, we have acquired stained glass windows for Belvedere and a gel transfer onto plexiglas that looks like a series of sepia prints at Clareview.
The art in Stadium and Coliseum stations is the result of an ETS initiative to bring life, colour and interesting images into our facilities. Our program partner is the Art and Design in Public Places program of The Works International Visual Arts Society.
The Stadium Station art is a series of flagpoles with sculpted flags made out of coloured aluminum. The design team is from the U of A Industrial Design Program. The wall mural painted in Coliseum Station was produced in December by Works 2 Works Students.
Our relationship with The Works has given us some amazing works of art and provided opportunities for emerging artists to get their work into the community. We're busy planning for this year, so keep your eyes open.
