ETS School Programs

First Riders

The annual First Riders event provides travel training and passenger safety orientation for students making the transition to bus transportation for the first time. In late August, students have the opportunity to get on a bus and ask ETS and yellow school bus representatives questions and get a feel for the bus experience in a safe setting. This program is open to students in all three local School Boards and registration is coordinated by the respective school boards.

Transportation in Edmonton - The First 100 Years

ETS is pleased to offer a FREE slide show presentation on the history of transportation in Edmonton to Grade Two classes in Edmonton. The program is delivered by Mr. Doug Cowan, a retired teacher with 35+ years of experience teaching in Edmonton, in your school.

The program consists of

  • A slide show followed by a question period taking about 60 minutes.
  • Expert commentary tailored to the Grade 2 Social Studies curriculum unit "A Community In The Past".
  • Support materials and keepsakes for the students.
  • A virtually self sufficient program at no cost.

Requirements for the program

  • A table or desk to put the projector on.
  • An extension cord and working plug-in to power the projector.
  • A screen to show the slides on (white boards do not work well for this as there is glare on the slides).
  • A room that can be darkened significantly (outside light washes out the slides and makes it hard for the students to see them).
  • Bookings for "Transportation in Edmonton - The First 100 Years" are made on a first-come-first served basis.
  • The maximum number of students per presentation is 50 (ETS recommends that if you have more than one class wanting the presentation then you should request a presentation for each class).
  • ETS will endeavour to accommodate all requests but may not be able to fit all requests into the schedule.
