Truck Survey
Project
In September and October 2012, the City conducted a roadside truck survey to better understand the movement of goods in Edmonton and provide input to the Edmonton Goods Movement Strategy. Drivers of trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 4,500 kg or more were asked to enter a safe waiting area where they were voluntarily interviewed.

The survey helped:
- Identify trends in goods movement within Edmonton
- Determine the routes and facilities used by trucks and the level of satisfaction of truck drivers with the goods movement network
- Better understand the types of commodities and dangerous goods carried by trucks
Background
Through The Way We Move, the Transportation Master Plan, the City of Edmonton is committed to support efficient goods movement. An efficient transportation network is critical for a productive economy.
A roadside survey is the most economical and effective method of gathering information from truck drivers on their origins and destinations, routes taken in the city, commodities carried and experiences while travelling on Edmonton roads.
The last complete review of trucks and dangerous goods routes was done in 1996.
The last complete review of goods movement in the city and the region took place in 2001.
