Disabled Parking Zones

The City installs disabled parking zones on public property in front of residences and businesses. Parking zones are typically 7.5-10m long, which accommodates one vehicle. Anyone displaying a valid Province of Alberta disabled parking placard can use a disabled parking zone. It is not designated for use by a single person or property.

Requirements

To request a disabled parking zone, you must meet at least one of the following requirements:

• Have a valid disabled parking placard from the Province of Alberta. Visit Service Alberta to apply for a disabled parking placard.
• Be registered with the Disabled Adults Transportation System (DATS). For more information, visit DATS.

Residents

To request a disabled parking zone in front of your home, call 311. If you are not the property owner, you must provide written permission from the owner. There is no charge to install a disabled parking zone in front of a residence.

Note: The City will not install a parking zone if your residence has a driveway leading to the street.

Businesses

Property owners/managers for businesses, institutions and apartment complexes must submit a written request for a disabled parking zone to the City. Please include the address for the parking zone in the request. Businesses will be charged a fee for this service. 

Private Property

The City does not provide disabled parking zones on private property. Contact the property owner to request accessible parking.

Disabled Parking at EPark Machines

The City has completed the installation of the pay by plate EPark pay machines.

At this point in time, there is no change in the parking availability provided for those individuals who are eligible for the free parking privilege via the disabled parking program within the City.

Vehicles displaying the Provincially Issued disabled placard are permitted to park in all on-street EPark pay machine zones free of charge for a two (2) hour time period.
