Sidewalks & Crosswalks

Edmonton has an extensive network of sidewalks, including many that are connected to curb ramps, stairs, over/underpasses and crosswalks to help improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians.

Sidewalk Repairs

The City works to maintain Edmonton's pedestrian infrastructure by repairing or replacing damaged sidewalks. You can report a sidewalk needing repair online or by calling the City's Roadway Maintenance Hotline at 780-496-1700.

Missing Sidewalks

The City of Edmonton does not proved sidewalks on both sides of every road in Edmonton. Sidewalk links are only considered to be missing when their absence has been reported by a citizen.

To report a missing sidewalk link, please call the Transportation Planning Branch at 780-496-1795 or email transplanning@edmonton.ca.

Sidewalk Strategy

The Sidewalk Strategy is focused on developing a comprehensive sidewalk network in Edmonton by identifying and prioritizing missing links, and then developing a plan for construction. Requests for sidewalk construction are now prioritized according to the process developed as part of the Sidewalk Strategy.

While the Sidewalk Strategy addresses Edmonton's pedestrian infrastructure needs, the City's Walkable Edmonton initiative promotes pedestrian friendly neighbourhoods.
