Nuisance Properties

Any property that is untidy, unsightly, offensive, dangerous, or interferes with the use or enjoyment of neighbouring properties is a nuisance property. Nuisance property conditions can range from smaller issues, such as uncut grass, weeds and overgrown vegetation, unpainted fences and wrecked or dismantled vehicles, to larger issues, such derelict buildings, houses or structures where a reasonable standard of maintenance and care has not been applied.

Enforcement of nuisance property conditions is handled by the Community Standards Branch. Derelict buildings, the most severe form of nuisance properties, are addressed by the City’s Derelict Buildings Team. In cases of severe disrepair, the Community Standards and the Derelict Housing teams may work together to address the issues.
