Building a Collector-Friendly Garbage Stand
Although waste collectors prefer that residents do not build garbage enclosures, many residents like having them to keep stray animals out of their garbage.
If you choose to build a garbage stand, please consider the following collector-friendly tips.
Access
It is important that the garbage stand allows cans to be accessed from the front and not the top. It is unsafe for your collector to lift a full garbage can out of the top of the stand.
Size
Please ensure that your garbage stand is large enough to accommodate your garbage cans and blue bags.
Height
Please build your garbage stand 12in off the ground.>
Latches
If your garbage stand has doors, please install the hinges on the sides, not the top. Also, the latches on the doors should be easy to operate if wearing large gloves.
Visibility
Please ensure your garbage stand is visible. If it is hidden, the collector may miss your garbage pick-up.
Location
Please ensure that your garbage stand is located no more than 3m away from the front street or rear lane.
