EWMC Tour FAQ

What will we see on our tour?

The tour typically visits 3 facilities on our site:

The Materials Recovery Facility, which processes recyclables collected in Edmonton’s recycling programs.
The Integrated Processing and Transfer Facility (IPTF), which prepares waste for composting, conversion to biofuels or transfer to landfill.
Global Electric Electronic Processing (GEEP) Alberta, which processes and recycles e-waste, including electronics dropped off at Eco Stations by Edmontonians.

You will also see the Cloverbar Sanitary Landfill, which is now closed.

How do I get to the EWMC?

The EWMC is located at 250 Aurum Road NE (formerly 13111 Meridian Street NE), just north of where Anthony Henday Drive meets Yellowhead Trail in northeast Edmonton.

We are currently experiencing construction en route to the site due to the expansion of Anthony Henday Drive. For up-to-date directions please visit edmonton.ca/ewmc. We expect construction to be completed in 2016.

Update: EWMC is now accessible via a new overpass that bypasses train tracks.

Where should I go when I arrive?

Please check-in at the Administration and Training Facility (Site 100), where you will meet your guide.

How large is the EWMC?

The Centre is 233 hectares in size which is equivalent to more than five West Edmonton Malls.

Do I need to bring my own bus?

Yes, you will need to provide your own bus for transportation during the tour. The site is too large to travel by foot. Your guide will join you on your bus.

If you don’t have a bus, join one of our Friday public tours, held every Friday at 9am and 12:30pm! Small groups (under 10) and individuals can reserve a seat by calling 780-496-6879.

Why are tours not recommeded for children younger than 9-years old?

The Edmonton Waste Management Centre is an industrial site. Much of the information in the tour is presented at a level suitable for older children and adults. We have found a two-hour tour of this nature is not appropriate for children under the age of nine.

Why are reservations required for Friday public tours?

The bus used for Friday tours sits a maximum of 15 people. Reservations ensure everyone has a seat. We are not able accommodate individuals that show up without pre-registering.
