2013 Winner: EcoAmmo
EcoAmmo provides sustainable building design and construction consulting as well as sustainable operations consulting, carbon monitoring and event tracking for other business.
Some of their green initiatives include:
- Integrating video commuting with out of town clients
- Purchased a company Smart Car
- Maintain a garden that supplies the office with fresh vegetables
- Organizing company and client lunches at local restaurants that focus on local and organic foods
2012 Winner: Earth Legacy
Sustainable landscape designer
- Designs include trees for shade and to sequester carbon
- Creates edible landscapes which provide food for homeowners and resiliency to drought and pests
- Landscape designs do not include lawns which eliminates the need for mowers
- On construction projects, use existing soil and plant material as substrate and compost
- Never using any chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides
2011 Winner: EcoAmmo

- Use of energy-efficient lighting
- Local food suppliers for catering
- Paper-free office – no printer, fax or copier
- Encourages clients to implement water saving strategies at events
Businesses with 11 to 50 employees
Architects, engineers and interior designers
- Manasc Isaac designed province’s first LEED® certified building as well as Edmonton’s first LEED® Silver building
- Installed solar panel sunshades on the south side of the building. They generate about 10% of building’s power saving about 12,500 pounds of CO2
- Office does not require any air conditioning thanks to solar sun shades and operable windows that allow air circulation throughout the building
- A roof deck garden grows vegetables and herbs
2011 Winner: Oil Country Engineering
Oil Country Engineering provides consulting, design and testing services to the oilfield manufacturing industry.
Some of their green initiatives include:
- Systems operated with purchased 100% renewable energy
- Vericomposting for lunch scraps
- Offices cleaned with natural, biodegradable cleaning products
- Creating a Goods Sharing website for employees to share belongings
Businesses with 51 to 100 employees
Specializes in interior demolition of commercial retail space as well as residential, commercial, and industrial sectors
- B&B has achieved as high as 89% recycle rates when demolishing buildings
- Installed scrubbers in all machines. Scrubbers reduce the amount of particulates that are released into the air in diesel fumes
- Uses 3 battery-operated floor stripping machines
- Regular Organic Box delivery of organic fruits and vegetables from local farms for office staff
- Later this year, B&B Demolition will become LEED certified
2011 Winner: Urban Systems
Urban Systems provides consulting services in transportation planning, stormwater management, landscape architecture and community planning.
Some of their green initiatives include:
- Renovated an existing downtown building for their offices
- Purchases bus passes for employees and bike share program for employees
- Meatless Monday potluck
- Uses bicycle couriers for deliveries
