River Valley Clean Up
Thank you volunteers!
Since 1987, thousands of city residents have scoured Edmonton’s parks system to pick up litter. It’s all part of River Valley Clean Up (RVCU), a volunteer program encouraging citizens and groups to help keep these natural areas litter-free and beautiful throughout the spring and summer.
We held our 29th annual RVCU event On May 1st and had more than 150 volunteers come out to Victoria Park to pick up litter from 10 a.m. to noon. Volunteers cleaned the grounds of Victoria Park and surrounding area, putting in over 300 volunteer hours and collecting over 50 bags of litter, plus many other items including car parts, a truck tire and pieces of a coffee table. Thanks to everyone who joined us and made our event a success.
Thirteen other groups held clean up events on the same weekend in various areas — Kinnaird, Fulton, Waterdale/Kinsman, Tiger Goldstick, Riverdale, Wolf Creek, Mill Creek, Terwilliger and Gallagher. In total, approximately 1300 people were involved in additional clean up events.
We are very fortunate to have so many individuals dedicated to the cleanliness of our River Valley and City parks. If you know someone who has been involved in cleaning up the River Valley and City parks, please offer them your heartfelt thanks!
Organize your group River Valley Clean Up
Are you part of a group of friends, coworkers or associates that want to make a difference in Edmonton? Your group can sign up to do their own River Valley or City park clean up this spring and summer. Register until September 2016.
