Tours and Presentations for Schools

The City has proudly offered highly acclaimed classroom presentations and facility tours to students for twenty years.

All presentations and tours are free of charge for Edmonton schools. Bookings are now being accepted for the 2016/17 school year.

Classroom Presentations

Garbage In, Compost Out

Grades 4 – 6
The Compost Chef cooks up compost! Students will plant a seed and make a compost tea bag. Students will also start a worm bin, explore semi-finished worm compost, and adopt the worms for their classroom. 2-3 adult helpers requested.

NEW! Waste Warriors

(Formerly “90 Ways to 90% Less Waste” or “Waste and our World”)

Grade 4
Let us turn your students into waste warriors! In this hands-on program, students will learn about Edmonton’s waste system, sort waste items by where they go, and be challenged to identify how they can better reduce, reuse and recycle.

Choose to Reuse

Grade 4
This presentation demonstrates the many benefits of a waste-free lunch, explores the Reuse Centre, and challenges students to find reuse possibilities in their everyday lives.

Facility Tours

The Edmonton Waste Management Centre (EWMC)

With its collection of advanced recycling and composting facilities, the EWMC has been called “the ultimate waste theme park.” Discover how recyclables get sorted, organic waste is turned into compost, e-waste is recycled, and waste is converted into methanol and ethanol.

The Reuse Centre: 6835 - 83 Street

Visit the Reuse Centre to see how everyday items get a chance at a second life, through the generous donations of Edmonton residents. Reuse tips and tricks guaranteed to inspire. Tours are suitable for ages 6 and older.
