Family Day Unplugged
Turn off your devices and treat yourself to some face time with loved ones by pledging to share at least 2 hours technology –free this family day weekend.
Examples of unplugged activities include anything from family board games, baking together or participating in one of the many events happening throughout the city.
Family Activities
These winter-themed activities for kids and families are from Front Yards in Bloom: Winterscapes.
You can find more family-friendly activities at Activities, Parks & Recreation, and Attractions & Events.
Why Disconnect?
- A University of Glasgow study found that many people check their email once an hour all day long, but many check their email up to 30 to 40 times an hour.
- An extremely large study by the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, shows that the desire to check a social network like Twitter or Facebook is stronger than the need to smoke a cigarette or drink alcohol.
- Researchers project that trends in physical activity levels will decrease and sedentary time will increase by 2020 and 2030. (Technology negatively affecting our health, study shows, Milkaukee Wisconsin Journal Sentinel).
