Community Building Social Workers work in neighbourhoods city wide.

Community Building Social Workers are: registered professionals guided by the Social Work Code of Ethics who work with communities to enhance quality of life.

Our main areas of our focus are:

We partner with community groups to lead and support:

Community Workshops and Events

We organize events, workshops, and conferences on critical issues like how to assist vulnerable populations and create an inclusive Edmonton. Some examples are:

• Aboriginal Family Nights
• PARIVAAR Outreach
• Family Fun Day
• Cultural Context of Trauma Conference
• Food Hubs

Innovative Community Development

We assist citizens and groups from diverse backgrounds to plan, develop, and evaluate community actions and to design innovative solutions to meet their needs. We love to problem solve and get creative! Some examples are:           

• Gardening Projects
• Picnic Table Build Projects
• Community Mapping Projects
• Nutritional Cooking Programs and Food Resources
• Youth Social and Recreational Opportunities
• Community Centre Activities to increase resources and opportunities

Financial Literacy

We host Financial Information Fairs in partnership with other community stakeholders to build financial literacy, help address financial concerns, to provide information on resources, and to create strategies for poverty reduction.

Housing and Homelessness

We engage in activities with stakeholders that promote awareness, support community initiatives, and create positive solutions to housing and homelessness issues.

Community Safety

We help organize community safety events to engage citizens and community groups to identify, explore, and understand community issues.

Community Consultations and Public Engagement

We help build community through public consultation, planning, and community engagement. We can help facilitate the creation of a vision for the future state of a neighbourhood and then help you connect with the programs, services, and resources that will get you there.

Information and Referrals

We help you find recreation, arts, community, supportive programs and services. Through identification of your strengths and needs we encourage healthy choices.

Interagency Networks and Partnerships

We facilitate connections in the community to develop and support collaborative efforts that benefit the communities in which we work. We help to identify needs and mobilize or develop resources to address gaps and issues.
