Pay Property Taxes

Bill Payment image

Pay property taxes in person, by mail or through the monthly tax payment plan.

About the Service

Property taxes collected from residential and non-residential properties is one of the various revenue sources available to the City of Edmonton to pay for municipal services.

Property taxes in Edmonton account for approximately half of the City's revenue to pay for such services as

• police and fire protection,
• road maintenance and snow clearing,
• parks and swimming pools,
• public transit and
• neighbourhood infrastructure.

The City mails property tax notices in late May every year and asks property owners to pay their taxes in full by the due date of June 30 to avoid late-payment penalties.

How Do I Obtain the Service?

You can pay property taxes through pre-authorized bank withdrawal monthly or in a lump sum once a year.

Property tax monthly payment plan

The City’s property tax monthly payment plan allows you to pay your property taxes by pre-authorized automatic bank withdrawal and spread your property tax payments over the year.

Request your enrolment package today.

Mortgage  If you pay property taxes to a mortgage company, your mortgage company submits the payment to the City on your behalf.

The City sends you the original property tax notice for your records. The name of the mortgage company being billed appears on your tax notice.

Bank  Ensure you submit your payment at your bank or via online or telephone banking to the account number indicated on your property tax notice.

Be aware of your bank’s policy on the effective date of payment to avoid late-payment penalties.

If paying by ATM, keep your receipt as proof of the date and time of payment.
Mail Send a cheque or money order and the remittance portion of your tax notice to the following address:

City of Edmonton
PO Box 1982
Edmonton, AB T5J 3X5

When sending your payment by mail, allow ample time for the payment to arrive. The envelope must be post-marked by Canada Post by the due date to avoid late-payment penalties.
