Snow Angels Program
We live in a winter city and snow is no stranger to Edmontonians. When it snows, City crews clear our roadways and property owners clear their sidewalks, all in an effort to keep Edmonton moving.
But for some Edmontonians, particularly seniors, moving snow can be difficult, and sometimes even dangerous. They need your help—they need a Snow Angel.
Become an Angel
To be a Snow Angel, adopt a senior's sidewalk this winter and keep it clear of snow and ice. Watch for people in your neighbourhood who could use help shoveling their sidewalks and driveways and ask if you can lend a hand. You can also pick up some free sand to add traction to your neighbour's sidewalk from the boxes at any Edmonton community league. (Remember to bring a container.)
Why Be a Snow Angel?
Keep our city safe and accessible
Snow that remains on sidewalks is hazardous for everyone, but especially for people with limited mobility who may be severely injured from falling on ice or snow. Uncleared walkways also make it difficult for people who deliver services in our city—mail carriers, meter readers, delivery drivers, firefighters and paramedics.
It’s the law
According to Edmonton’s Community Standards Bylaw, property owners are responsible for removing ice and snow from city sidewalks adjacent to their property within 48 hours of a snow fall.
Do You Have a Snow Angel?
Has someone been an angel and helped you shovel? Say thanks by nominating them as a Snow Angel with the City of Edmonton. You will receive a Snow Angels pin and letter from the Mayor to give to your Snow Angel. S/he will also be entered into a draw for some great prizes.
To nominate your Snow Angel, complete the online
nomination form or call the City of Edmonton at 311. You may also fax or mail your nomination to:

Need a Snow Angel?
The Snow Angels program cannot match seniors with Snow Angels, but information about organizations that coordinate low-cost shoveling services for seniors is available. If you are a senior in need of a Snow Angel, we encourage you to ask a friend, family member or neighbour for help shoveling.
