Leaders in Training

Get the Leading Edge!

The Leaders in Training (L.I.T.) program gives youth ages 13-17 years the chance to develop leadership skills and gain valuable experience while having fun outdoors. Give back to your community and earn leadership or volunteer hours for your school, too. Program runs May-August annually.

Volunteer to be an L.I.T. and work with recreation leaders to run summer programs for children. Choose from the following:

Playground Programs
Join the fun at a playground near you. As a playground L.I.T. you get a chance to participate in a variety of activities, from games and crafts to drama, music, sports, and more. Gain experience working with 6-12 year olds in a fun, flexible setting.

Registered Programs
Work out of a community facility with children ages 3-12 years in a week long themed program including sports, drama, and science. Those in registered programs also go on plenty of field trips.

River Valley Day Camps
For the outdoor enthusiast who enjoys working with children ages 5-12 years in the urban wilderness of our river valley. Help out with week long outdoor themed camps including cycling, outdoor cooking, and drama.

After an interview and training, you can volunteer for as little as two weeks or as many as seven weeks.

To volunteer, complete an application which will be available online in mid April.

The L.I.T. Process

Step 1. Apply and Pay $20 Application Fee

Complete the L.I.T. application and return it to the City of Edmonton Circle Square office or bring it to an open house. Attach $20 payment with your application or pay at the interview.
