Family violence affects people from all walks of life. No one has a right to hurt anyone, anywhere, any time. Violence is never a solution.
Family Violence Prevention Month Proclamation
The Family Violence Prevention Month launch will take place at City Hall on November 2, 2011 as the City of Edmonton proclaims November as Family Violence Prevention Month. All are welcome to attend.
The focus this year is on building connections with businesses and raising awareness of the impact of family violence on the workplace.
"Family Violence Doesn’t Stay at Home. Make it Your Business to Care. ”The Program includes:
- Proclamation of Family Violence Prevention Month by Mayor Stephen Mandel
- Greetings from other dignitaries
- Speakers: Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters; business community; an individual who has experienced how family violence can affect the workplace
- Carrie Doll from CTV has graciously agreed to MC the event.

Family Violence Prevention Month Events
Events taking place during Family Violence Prevention Month
Programs and Services Currently Offered
The City of Edmonton actively raises awareness of family violence and provides direct service to citizens through the following programs:
Assessment and Short-Term Counselling
Free service available to citizens. Receives approximately 1,000 calls per year related to family violence.
Elder Abuse Intervention Team
Receives approximately 600 requests per year for consultation and direct service. Together with the Domestic Violence Intervention Team, they intervened in approximately 1,000 high risk family violence files in 2009.
