Pets

Cat and 2 kittens

Pets bring a community to life and are an important part of many Edmonton families. Pet ownership is regulated under the
Animal Licensing and Control Bylaw and the City of Edmonton's Animal Care & Control Centre works with pet owners to help ensure pets are a positive addition to the community.

Owning a Pet in Edmonton

Pets are a great addition to our city, but there are some obligations you have as a pet owner.

Pet Licences

All cats and dogs six months or older must have a valid pet licence. Pet licences are affordable and available online.

Restricted Dogs

Unwanted Cats on Private Property

It is illegal for cats to roam on private property without permission from the property owner. If you have an unwanted cat on your property, you can humanely trap it and bring it to us.
