Great Neighbourhoods Capital Program
This program was established in the 10-year capital plan and is intended to invest about $15 million per year from 2009-11 to improve the livability of Edmonton’s neighbourhoods in three integrated areas:
Neighbourhood Revitalizations
Great Neighbourhoods Improvement Fund
Neighbourhood Business Development Investments
Neighbourhood Revitalizations
Neighbourhood Revitalization is a process, directed by the community and supported by the City, to identify strengths, issues, challenges, and the potential of a particular area. People, businesses, and organizations in the area determine their own goals and action plans to build on strengths and improve quality of life.
From 2009 to 2011, the City of Edmonton is investing in four neighbourhoods:
Great Neighbourhoods Improvement Fund
These investments are made when the City of Edmonton is doing construction work in a neighbourhood such as neighbourhood renewal. This is an opportunity to coordinate work to maximize the investment and increase the livability of a neighbourhood.
As every neighbourhood is different, the investments made are unique to each neighbourhood.
Neighbourhood Business Development Investments
These investments are designed to support local business and commercial areas that add to the vibrancy of Edmonton’s Neighbourhoods. The investment criteria are currently being developed.
