2011 Participation and Customer Satisfaction Survey Results

A recent telephone survey of Edmonton residents measured their participation and satisfaction with City of Edmonton waste management services.

Highlights of the survey include:

Blue Bag Recycling

90% of single-family households participate in Blue Bag recycling in 2011 (89% in 2009, 88% in 2006).

Multi-family Blue Bin Recycling

89% of multi-family households with Blue Bins participate in blue bin recycling in 2011, up from 80% in 2009.

Recycling Depot Usage

The number of people and the frequency of visiting a Recycling Depot in 2011 is consistent with 2009 and 2006. 65% of single family households and 66% of multi-family households use Recycling Depots.

Grasscycling

Grasscycling has increased in 2011. 52% of single family households leave their clippings on their lawn in 2011 compared to 36% in 2009. This is a significant 16% increase in participation.

Backyard Composting

Backyard composting increased in 2011 among single family households, from 24% composting regularly in 2009, to 30% in 2011.

Eco Station Usage

The number of people using Eco Stations continues to grow, from 37% in 2006, to 53% in 2009 and to 66% in 2011 reporting using an Eco Station in the past 12 months.

Satisfaction with Collection Services

The survey found 94% of Edmontonians are satisfied with garbage and recycling collection services overall.

Satisfaction with Eco Stations

Overall satisfaction with Eco Stations remains high at 95% in 2011, including 73% who report being very satisfied.
