Garbage & Recycling

|
Please clear snow away and spread sand around icy areas so that collectors have safe access to waste materials. Icy conditions in back lanes and front streets are making collection of garbage and blue bag recyclables difficult. More info |
Since starting a curbside recycling program in 1988, the City of Edmonton has grown to become a national leader in sustainable waste management.
Residents enjoy the convenience and efficiency of a three-stream waste system:
- Recyclables are taken to the Materials Recovery Facility.
- Garbage is taken to the Edmonton Composting Facility.
- Household hazardous waste should be brought to an Eco Station.
Edmonton currently diverts close to 60 per cent of residential waste from landfill. The new Integrated Processing and Transfer Facility (IPTF) and other planned facilities will enable us to reach 90 per cent diversion by 2013.
