Emerging Immigrant and Refugee Communities Grant Program
Grant Objectives
The City of Edmonton’s 10 year Strategic Plan - The Way Ahead, redefines local government as a caring entity that creates a diverse and inclusive city by connecting people, creating communities where people can age in place and actively nurturing an arts, culture and athletic community.
The Way We Live: Edmonton’s People Plan advances The Way Ahead goals of improving Edmonton's livability and promoting inclusive communities and integration of newcomers to Edmonton.
In order to more closely align the 2012 Emerging Immigrant and Refugee Community Grant Program with The Way We Live People’s Plan the grants encourage community organizations to:
- rent non commercial space
- strengthen cultural identity through cultural programs and projects
- partner and collaborate with other community not-for-profit organizations to address community needs and foster the capacity building of both new and established organizations to better meet the needs of new immigrant and refugee communities.

New in 2012:
