Winspear Centre/Edmonton Symphony Orchestra

About the Winspear Centre/Edmonton Symphony Orchestra

The versatile orchestra presents seven regular subscription series, and many special performances, and plays everything from Beethoven to the Beatles, from jazz to Broadway to Handel’s Messiah.

For the 2010/11 season, the ESO once again showcases everything from the great classics to classic comedy – quite literally from classical treasures to Bugs Bunny. They will perform in concert with Chantal Kreviazuk, Ben Vereen, Pieter Wispelwey, Jens Lindemann, and many more. In addition, the ESO annually performs for nearly 30,000 schoolchildren from Edmonton and northern Alberta in its specially-tailored educational concerts.

Currently under the dynamic leadership of Music Director William Eddins, the ESO is proud to call one of Canada’s finest performance spaces its permanent home. Since opening its doors in 1997, the Francis Winspear Centre for Music has won international acclaim as one of the finest acoustic performance spaces. It has attracted not only an international roster of outstanding musicians and ensembles, the multi-use facility has been the venue of choice for everything from awards ceremonies, weddings and receptions, fashion shows, fundraisers, corporate gatherings, convocations, and more.
