Valley Line Project History - Concept Planning

During this phase of the project the Valley Line (Southeast to West) LRT was broken into three parts; Southeast, Downtown, and West.
The Concept Planning phase of this project defined the major features of the Valley Line (SE to W LRT) including the corridor and alignment, station locations, integration with the transportation network, preliminary property requirements, and cost estimates. Concept Plans have been approved by City Council.

City Council approved the proposed amendments to Concept Plan.

Approval of the proposed amendment means:
- The Operations and Maintenance Facility (OMF) has been relocated to Whitemud Drive & 75 Street
- The Transit Centre and LRT Station have been relocated to Wagner, on 75 Street south of Wagner Road
- The Park & Ride has been relocated to Wagner and will include up to 1300 stalls
- There is no LRT Stop at Whitemud Drive & 75 Street
- The LRT will operate on a bridge from about 85 Street & Argyll Road to 75 Street & McIntyre Road

In 2008, the City of Edmonton initiated a study to develop an LRT corridor recommendation for Southeast LRT and re-evaluate potential West LRT route options.

In March and April 2009, an online questionnaire and a series of face-to-face interviews were conducted. This information has been used to help refine the discussion points for further public involvement.

December 2008 - Profiling Interviews
In December 2008 a series of profiling interviews with key stakeholders was undertaken to collect feedback on the five possible routes identified by the project team and get input on a proposed public involvement plan for the project. The results of the process are reported in the summary document.
