LRT Construction Damage Claims

The City makes every effort to minimize construction impacts on affected properties and communities.

In the unlikely event that distress or damage occurs to your property as a result of work related to LRT construction, the City has a process in place.

LRT Construction Damage Claim Process

Before Construction

If your property is directly adjacent to the LRT right-of-way, the City will contact you to offer a pre-construction condition review of any building or structure you own that’s close to the construction site.

With your permission, assessors will examine your property and take digital photos of any areas of your property that currently exhibit some level of distress or damage, with particular reference to foundations and finishes. This assessment will establish comparative baseline documentation.

In the unlikely event that distress or damage occurs to your property as a result of work related to LRT construction, this documentation will help to expedite claims.

During Construction

If you’re concerned that work related to LRT construction is damaging your property, please contact us right away so that we can prevent or stop potential damage.

If Damage Occurs

If you feel that work related to LRT construction is responsible for damage to your property, file a property damage claim using a Statement of Damage or Injury Claim Form as soon as you become aware of the damage.

Contact your insurer to see if coverage may exist under your insurance policy for the type of claim you are making against the City. If you have coverage and should your insurer feel that the City is responsible for your damages, they will try to recover their claim payment from the City after they make a payment to you.
