Improvement Projects 2016

Making Your Transit Better

Numerous projects are taking place around the city this year that require temporary changes to some bus routes and schedules, including:

Transit Centre Improvements: Abbottsfield, Belvedere, West Edmonton Mall, Griesbach Road
127 Street from 118 Avenue - Yellowhead Trail
Whitemud and 53 Avenue construction detours

Transit Centre Improvements

Abbottsfield, Belvedere, and West Edmonton Mall transit centres are getting a new look in 2016. The changes will enhance safety, access, and site beautification. To complete construction, some bus stops are moving.

Abbottsfield

Routes 8, 141, 142, 180, 183, 185 and 318 are temporarily moving to stops along 119 Avenue.

Improvements include:

Safety enhancements (adding stairs, improving sidewalk and increasing waiting areas);
Increased comfort (new bus shelters);
Site beautification (protecting trees, resurfacing where needed).

Construction is expected to last until Fall 2016.

Belvedere

Routes/bus stops are moving in phases. On-site signs will direct to new location.

Improvements include:

Safety enhancements (better lighting, redesigning sidewalks and improving street level waiting area, widening bus entrance off 129 Avenue);
Site beautification (resurfacing Kiss & Ride zone, as well as a portion of the bus loop).

Construction takes place in phases and is expected to last until Fall 2016.

West Edmonton Mall

Bus stops on the centre island are closed.

Improvements include:

Replacing transit centre, including safety enhancements (more security cameras, improved sight lights within transit centre, better outdoor lighting, redesigning sidewalks );
Increased comfort (doubling size of indoor heated waiting area, added seating);
Site beautification (public art installation, building design and platform improvements).

Construction is expected to last until early 2017.

Griesbach Road

Routes 164 and 169 detouring due to construction on Griesbach Road. Buses operate via 153 Avenue and 97 Street in both directions.

Departure and travel times have be adjusted accordingly.

127 Street from 118 Avenue - Yellowhead Trail

Routes 12, 115, 128, and 150 detouring due to construction on 127 Street. Free temporary community shuttle service (Route 398) available within Prince Charles and Sherbrooke operating every 20 minutes.

Expect delays and leave earlier if you can. Bus schedules for Routes 12, 115, 128, 150, and school specials using 127 Street have been adjusted starting April 24.

Whitemud Drive and 53 Avenue

While the 53 Avenue overpass over Whitemud Drive rehabilitation project is in progress, bus stops 4567, 4158, 4279, 4020, and 4191 will be closed starting Monday, March 28.

Temporary bus stops are in place outside of the construction zone. Expect delays and leave earlier if you can.
