About the Edmonton Opera

Edmonton Opera has been presenting professional grand opera to audiences in Central and Northern Alberta for more than 46 years.  From the soaring melodies of our first production, Madama Butterfly, in 1963, to last season’s award-winning Rigoletto and numerous sold-out productions between, Edmonton Opera has become recognized as a leader among regional opera companies in Canada. 

As the only professional opera company in Northern Alberta, and one of only a handful in Western Canada, Edmonton Opera has a rich history of producing world-class, award-winning opera productions, recitals, and other related events.  Edmonton Opera has a proud history of developing partnerships in the artistic community, with officers sitting on numerous juries and Boards and supporting the communities we serve by using local crews, chorus, orchestra and, where possible, principal artists for our productions.

In the last six seasons, Edmonton Opera has won five prestigious Sterling Awards out of nine nominations for outstanding productions, lighting design and costume design.
