![]()
Carbon Dioxide Reduction Edmonton (CO2RE) is our community-wide initiative, developed by the community, for the community. Our aim is to permanently reduce local greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These emissions are linked to climate change. Our goal is to reduce GHG emissions in Edmonton from 1990 levels by up to 20% by the year 2020.
Whether you're a resident or company, we have tips and resources on how to reduce your environmental impact.

NRCan's ecoENERGY program ended
The Government of Canada announced that, effective March 31, 2010, the federal ecoENERGY Retroft program is no longer accepting new bookings for pre-retrofit evaluations. The ecoENERGY program will continue to process applications from homeowners who have scheduled or completed a pre-retrofit evaluation and who will be undertaking energy efficiency improvements on their homes and apply for a grant before March 31, 2011.
If you have questions regarding this program, please call ecoENERGY at toll free 1-800-O-CANADA (1-800-622-6232). Up-to-date information can be found at ecoENERGY.
Provincial Rebates Still Available
The province is investing $36 million in consumer rebates to help Albertans reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. As part of the three-year program, rebates are available to existing homeowners who improve their energy efficiency, to new home buyers who purchase energy efficient homes and to taxi operators who are transitioning their fleet to hybrid vehicles.
Eligible purchases, which are retroactive to January 1, 2009, include:
- new homes that achieve a high level of energy efficiency
- energy evaluations for homeowners to assess the current energy efficiency of their home and to measure its efficiency after home improvements are made
- efficient home heating systems, hot water heating systems, clothes washers and insulation upgrades
The rebate program will be run by Climate Change Central, a non-profit organization created in 2000 to empower Albertans to take action on climate change. For specific information on what purchases are eligible and how to apply for a rebate, visit Climate Change Central or call toll free at 1-888-537-7202. For information on the rebate, please see their announcement.
