What is Enviso – ISO 14001?

Enviso is the name of the City's environmental management system (EMS). It is based on the international standard ISO 14001 and provides us with a systematic method of managing and improving our environmental performance. Achieving and maintaining ISO 14001 registration demonstrates that we are doing everything in our power to effectively manage our environmental responsibilities.

ISO 14001 establishes a management framework for organizations to comply with relevant environmental legislation and regulations, prevent pollution and continually improve its environmental performance.

The rapid emergence of environmental management systems is a result of pressure on government and industry to improve their environmental performance. This pressure has come from citizens, customers, competitors, regulators, banks, insurance companies and environmentalists.

Enviso Implementation

The City has opted for the most rigorous implementation strategy: third-party certification to the ISO 14001 Standard. This involves having a third-party auditor perform an independent validation that the EMS conforms to the ISO 14001 standard, and that it is "in place, complete and sufficient."
