Exploring Edmonton’s River Valley

Our garden at the CN Tower highlights Edmonton’s majestic North Saskatchewan River Valley.

  • Known as Edmonton’s Ribbon of Green, the River Valley is 48 kilometres of natural and maintained parkland cutting through the heart of the city.
  • Original trading forts of Fort Saskatchewan and Edmonton House were established in 1795, and the Alberta Legislature looks over the original site of Fort Edmonton.
  • The four habitats of the river, deciduous forest, mixed woodlands, and floodplains boast a diversity of wildlife and vegetation for this bustling urban center.
  • The North Saskatchewan River originates in the Canadian Rockies, just four hours east of Edmonton.
