Drainage Master Plan
The City of Edmonton needs Drainage Master Plans to set multi-year visions for drainage services in Edmonton.
Master plans are Utility Services’ business strategy documents and are the highest-level documents that drive Utility Services' business planning process.
The current 2004-2014 Drainage Services Master Plan (2004 DMP) – which expires at the end of 2014 – was based on a 1991 document that identified long and short-term drainage maintenance, upgrading and development requirements.
As the time frame of the 2004 DMP draws to a close, the Branch has developed a new Master Plan to guide its direction for the next ten years. The 2015-2024 Drainage Services Master Plan was developed through extensive consultation with City staff and with key external partners and stakeholders.
The new DMP comes in two parts.
- The Aspirational Plan - outlines the six goals set out for the next decade and introduces strategic directions to support the achievement of each goal. This plan was approved by City Council in May 2014.
- The Action Plan - this document explains the actions and performance measures that will guide Utility Services as it works to achieve the six goals in the Aspirational Plan. The Action Plan is currently under development and is expected to be completed in late 2014.
The six goals of the Aspirational Plan are:

- Sustainable Infrastructure
- Fiscal Responsibility
- Organizational Excellence
