McKernan/Belgravia Station Area Plan

A station area plan is being prepared for the area near the McKernan/Belgravia LRT Station.

The plan will determine the location and design of future transit-oriented land uses such as housing, employment and retail as well as supportive infrastructure such as streets and parks.

Public Workshop #2

Date: March 20, 2012, 6-9pm (presentation at 6:30pm)
Place: McKernan School – North Gym, 11330 – 76 Avenue NW

The purpose of this meeting is to present a set of design options for the McKernan/Belgravia area and to seek input from community members and other stakeholders. City representatives and the consultant team will present an emerging vision, set of design principles, and potential development options for the station area based on previous stakeholder input. Participants will be encouraged to discuss these components and provide feedback necessary to create a preferred design concept for the McKernan/Belgravia station area.

The purpose of this meeting was to introduce the project, provide background information, and seek input from community members and other stakeholders.

Project Goals

The goals of the station area plan are to:

  • Determine a vision for transit oriented development in McKernan/Belgravia.
  • Facilitate appropriate development in the station area.
  • Respect the unique character and history of the McKernan/Belgravia area.

Current Work

The City is initiating planning for the area around McKernan/Belgravia LRT Station. The City has retained a consulting team led by ParioPlan Inc. to assist with the development of the station area plan in consultation with property owners and other stakeholders.

Current work includes collecting background information and consulting with stakeholders.

Process

The work plan for the project is divided into four phases over a 15 month period:

  • Phase 1: Collection of background information (Sep – Nov 2011)
  • Phase 2: Exploration and evaluation of alternatives (Dec 2011 – Mar 2012)
  • Phase 3: Preparation of draft station area plan and zoning (Apr – Aug 2012)
  • Phase 4: Final plan and approvals (Sep – Oct 2012)

Opportunities for public input will be provided in each phase of the project.
