Edmonton Food Council
Many cities that develop food and urban agriculture policies also establish food councils. Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Halifax, Kamloops and Calgary are good Canadian examples.
Edmonton has also established a Food Council.
As a committee of the City's administration, the Edmonton Food Council’s primary role is to advise on matters of food and urban agriculture and to take an active role in supporting the implementation of fresh. Other core jobs may include providing advice, undertaking research and evaluation, coordination, engagement and education.
Here is the complete list of current Food Council members and their biographies.
Every year there will be some turnover in membership of the Edmonton Food Council. In the spring there will be a new nomination period for membership in the Edmonton Food Council. Opportunities will be posted to this page and sent out to those who subscribe to the Food in the City newsletter.
Edmonton Food Council meetings are expected to be held monthly and will be open to the public.
The council's next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday December 3, 2013 from 5-8pm in the basement at Chancery Hall (3 Sir Winston Churchill Square). The public is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.
