Designing Streets and Neighbourhoods

As Edmonton continues to grow, we have to consider how new neighbourhoods are designed to encourage the development of innovative and unique communities. We also need to think about how our new and existing streets can better serve everyone.
This is a collaborative initiative by two City of Edmonton projects – Complete Streets and Designing New Neighbourhoods. Both projects hosted joint open houses at the end of January 2013 and are simultaneously soliciting public feedback through an online discussion forum.
The Complete Streets project is a new approach to planning and designing Edmonton’s streets. Draft guidelines have been developed based on the idea that roadway design should consider the characteristics of the neighbourhood, as well as the needs of all users of the streets.
The Designing New Neighbourhoods project has developed draft design guidelines for Edmonton’s new neighbourhoods. These guidelines will inform the physical structure and layout of our brand new neighbourhoods.
Have your say!
We want to hear from you! Please read the draft guidelines found on the two project web pages, and then provide your comments using the online discussion forum for each project.
