Skatepark Renewals

Callingwood Skatepark

The City of Edmonton has a number of skateparks throughout the city that are popular, no cost, play spaces open to any skateboarder, BMX rider, push scooter and inline skater. These skateparks require timely maintenance and rehabilitation to:

  • extend the park’s use
  • reduce long-term repair costs
  • keep the park safe
  • ensure the facilities remain functional and accessible

Project Overview

In 2014, the City of Edmonton engaged a consultant to complete visual site inspections on five City of Edmonton skateparks to assess the condition of each park and provide recommendations for maintenance and repairs. Based on the report, four skateparks have been identified for rehabilitation as follows:

  • Mill Woods
  • Callingwood
  • Castle Downs
  • Kaskitayo

In addition, consultants were engaged in 2015 to provide a structural condition evaluation for the Mill Woods Skatepark. Engineers conducted visual inspections and provided recommendations to repair concrete damage and distress and to maximize the remaining service life of the facility.

Based on the engineer's report and findings of the concrete tests, design work was completed to address the surface spalling, grind uneven joints, seal wide cracks and complete other localized repairs.

The Mill Woods Skatepark renewal is delayed. More information on timelines will be provided soon.

Callingwood, Castle Downs and Kaskitayo skateparks renewal will depend on funding approvals.
