Sanitary Utility Contribution (by the City)
The Sanitary Utility contributes to the Sanitary Servicing Strategy Fund (SSSF) to cover the share of costs for using the new sanitary sewer trunk system (pipes >1050mm) to convey and store sanitary sewage. These pipes originate from existing and re-developed neighbourhoods in Mill Woods, Castledowns and West Edmonton that were built prior to the establishment of the Fund in 1999.
The contribution amount was originally set at $2.6M per year from 1999 to 2013 when the ‘Sanitary Servicing Strategy for the 21st Century’ report was approved by City Council in 1998. This was later adjusted to $1.3M per year for 17 more years starting in 2007.
