Rollie Miles Athletic Field District Park Renewal
Located in a mature neighbourhood on the northeast corner of 104 Street and University Avenue, the Rollie Miles Athletic Field District Park faces the challenge of addressing community needs with infrastructure beyond its expected life cycle. The park is 13.09 hectares in the Queen Alexandra neighbourhood that supports many amenities including: Strathcona Composite High School, Queen Alexandra Community League, Edmonton Federation of Community League office, Strathcona pool, George S. Hughes arena, as well as tennis courts, a 400 metre synthetic running track and several sports fields.
The Rollie Miles Athletic Field District Park renewal project provides a long term strategic approach to renew district parks and identify priorities for park renewal through a park master plan. The development of a park master plan will provide more details required to address community needs and aging infrastructure.

Project Overview
The Rollie Miles Athletic Field District Park master plan will include an assessment of the park's physical condition, demand capacity and functionality. The park renewal priorities will be based on community needs, public consultation, standards and regulations (accessibility, safety, health, sport and environment). Priorities may include utility replacements, improved circulation, access and parking, improvements to park amenities including sports fields, facilities, and required supports for park operations.
The first phases of gathering public input were completed in winter 2014 and fall 2015. Residents, park users, community organizations and other stakeholders identified how Rollie Miles Athletic Field District Park is used, community priorities and ideas for improving use.
Using the information gathered, we will now evaluate the opportunities and constraints in the priority areas of:
- Indoor and outdoor community amenities
- Pedestrian movement
- Vehicle access and parking
- Naturalized environment and green space
