On January 23, 2013, the City of Edmonton received $72.9-million in funding from the River Valley Alliance and the provincial and federal governments for five initiatives that will increase access to the river valley.

A new footbridge will link Terwillegar Park with the trail system east of Fort Edmonton.

Docks and launches will be built to allow greater public access to the river.
West End Trails
Enhancing our Trail System
New and upgraded trails will link the Terwillegar Park Footbridge to existing trails.
East End Trails
New Trails to Discover
About 16 km of new paved and gravel trails will be built in east Edmonton.
Mechanized Access and Touch the Water
Enhancing River Valley Access
These two initiatives will increase access to the river valley from the downtown core and will enhance connections to the trail system and the North Saskatchewan River.
