Lewis Farms Facility and Park
Lewis Farms was identified in the 2005-2015 Recreation Facility Master Plan and the Medium Term Recreation Facility and Sports Field Plan as one of the new recreation centres to be developed based on consultation and stakeholder feedback.
What we heard from our initial consultations on the plans was support for a multi-purpose recreation centre that could contain aquatic elements, indoor ice amenities, a fitness centre, multi-purpose spaces and gymnasia. An Edmonton Public Library branch and an Edmonton Catholic Schools academic centre are planned to be co-located with the centre. Outdoor park components include sports fields, gathering spaces and walkways for the district park.

Project Overview
Concept
The following work has been completed:
- Functional program study that presents the functional and spatial requirements for design and construction
- Business case that presents the capital and operating impacts for the facility
- Submission for project funding into the City's 2015-2018 capital budget.
In December 2014, City Council approved funding for the schematic design of the Lewis Farms Community Recreation Centre and the Lewis Farms Library.
Design
The City of Edmonton is beginning public and stakeholder consultation in April 2015, to build on the work completed to date and identify emerging needs to be included in schematic design.
The City has completed a Public Involvement Plan that outlines who we will engage and how. It also ensures a balance and range of public perspectives will be provided for consideration in the decision process.
The consultation for the Lewis Farms Facility and Park will occur in three phases:
Phase 1: Sharing Ideas
Your first opportunity to get involved and tell us
what activities you would like to do in the Lewis Farms recreation centre, public library and district park.
Phase 2: Exploring Options
Your second opportunity to get involved. We’ll take all your feedback from the Sharing Ideas event and online surveys to create concept design options. You’ll have the opportunity to review these options to create a draft schematic design
Phase 3: Setting the Direction
Your final opportunity to get involved. We’ll present the draft schematic design to get your input to create a final schematic design.
At the end of 2016, based on public input, the schematic design, the details and cost of the Lewis Farms Facility and Park will be shared with City Council for future direction.
The detailed design stage will begin if funding for the remaining design and construction is approved and the following triggers are reached:
- Dedicated Land: The Lewis Farms District Park is currently unassembled.
- Base Infrastructure: Projects such as roads and utilities next to the proposed centre should be completed to reduce cost impacts.
Further public and stakeholder consultation will occur during the detailed design phase.
Build / Operate
The City will continue to look for opportunities to improve cost recovery through new/innovative operating models. This includes the review of partnerships and P3 assessments.
