Take 15 to Clean
April 28, 2010
Pick up litter, report graffiti
Imagine the difference if every Edmontonian took 15 minutes to help clean a piece of litter or wipe out graffiti.
The City of Edmonton has started its spring cleaning activities and is asking Edmontonians to do their part in helping keep the city clean during the spring and summer months.
To support the City’s ongoing clean up, during the week of April 25 to May 2, people are encouraged to take the 15 to Clean Challenge. Citizens can challenge themselves, their neighbours, co-workers, friends and family to take 15 minutes to clean an area, block, trail or park, or report graffiti by calling 311. Edmontonians should also log their participation at www.edmonton.ca/capitalcitycleanup to help measure the impact of their efforts in reducing litter and graffiti in the city.
“The responsibility for keeping our city clean is shared by all of us. If we all took 15 minutes to clean up litter or wipe out graffiti, imagine how much of a difference we could make together,” said Mayor Stephen Mandel. “Edmontonians take pride in their city and show it by participating in events like this.”
The 15 to Clean Challenge marks the official launch of the 2010 program year of Capital City Clean Up-the City’s litter and graffiti prevention program.
Today’s campaign launch will be followed by weekend-long clean up activities throughout the city including:
- Big Bin season on May 1 and 2
- River Valley Clean Up on May 2
- Adopt a Block campaign, and
- Graffiti Professional Cleaning program.
The City’s Spring Clean Up is a huge initiative involving multiple departments including street cleaning by Transportation, River Valley clean up as well as boulevards by Parks Branch and sidewalk cleaning by Waste Management Branch. Some are ongoing efforts, such as the City’s graffiti removal van and monitoring and compliance efforts by Community Standards Branch.
Edmontonians interested in contributing to the City’s spring clean up efforts can contact Capital City Clean Up by visiting www.edmonton.ca/capitalcitycleanup.
