Share Your Views on New Plan for Fort Edmonton Park
February 02, 2010
A proposed plan for Fort Edmonton Park aims to increase the number of visitors by providing fun, unique, immersive experiences while maintaining the attraction’s historical and cultural integrity. Residents were invited to go to fortedmontonpark.ca, watch a video about the draft plan and then share their views by completing an online survey.
“As we move forward with revitalizing the Park and improving the visitor experience, we will remain true to the mandate of delivering a world class living history experience while, at the same time, maintaining the historical integrity of Fort Edmonton Park,” said Doug Goss, Chair of the Fort Edmonton Management Company.
“The draft plan is less about bricks and mortar and more about increasing opportunities for interactive experiences, such as interacting with interpreters portraying inhabitants from the past and using technology to recreate what you would have seen and heard in the past,” said Bill Demchuk, Executive Director, Fort Edmonton Management Company.
Residents have until February 26 to complete the online survey. The survey complements other consultation, including discussion with members of the public who regularly visit Fort Edmonton Park, those who don’t go to the Park and representatives of other stakeholder groups.
The consultation findings will help shape the recommendations to be included in a report about Fort Edmonton Park that will go to City Council this spring.
Opened in 1974, Fort Edmonton Park is a living history experience located in the river valley in southwest Edmonton.
