Partial Fire Ban in Effect for Edmonton

May 17, 2011

The City of Edmonton is issuing a city-wide partial fire ban due to extremely dry and windy conditions.

“Dry weather conditions mean there is a heightened risk for uncontrolled fires,” said Deputy Fire Chief Ian Sterling. “This ban is a preventative measure to help keep Edmontonians safe from the risk of fire.”

The partial fire ban means:

  • NO fires in park areas
  • NO open air burning, including those with existing permits
  • NO fireworks

This ban does not include:

All citizens should be extremely cautious when using back yard fire pits, barbeques and other sources of ignition including cigarettes.

The City of Edmonton asks all citizens to comply with this fire ban. Any contravention of this ban may result in fines being assessed to recoup costs associated with dispatching Fire Rescue Services to fight the fire.

“We want to work with citizens to keep Edmonton safe, and this includes implementing an effective fire ban,” said Chief Sterling. “We’re asking all Edmontonians to comply with this fire ban until it’s lifted.”

This ban will remain in effect until conditions change.
