Parking Ban Announced
November 17, 2011
No parking on bus routes as of Friday at 7am
With over 3 cm of snow falling and an additional 7 cm expected overnight, the City of Edmonton has declared the parking ban on residential bus routes in effect for 7am on Friday, November 18 so that crews can ensure continued safe passage of commuter traffic, transit and emergency services.
“Crews will start plowing on main roads this afternoon with additional equipment starting tonight,” says Bob Dunford, Director of Roadway Maintenance, Transportation Services. “Although the parking ban may pose a temporary inconvenience, not having those vehicles in the way means that we are able to do the best job possible. The more efficiently we can plow the roads, the more quickly we will be able to lift the parking ban.”
Vehicles still parked on the designated parking ban routes after 7am tomorrow are subject to tagging and towing. Another notice will be issued when the parking ban has been lifted.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the parking ban and other winter road maintenance activities by monitoring local media, checking the City of Edmonton website, keeping tabs on the City’s Twitter and Facebook accounts, and by signing up for the email notification system (available through www.edmonton.ca/winterroads).
