New Website Connects Landlords with Non-profit Organizations Seeking Space
December 16, 2010
A new website aims to make it easier for local non-profit organizations to find the space they need to offer programs and services to Edmontonians. On Edmonton SpaceFinder property owners can list their available space and those who need space can search for it.
The free online service was developed to help address the non-profit sector's need for physical space and provide property owners and operators a convenient way to let non-profits know what space is available.
“Edmonton's non-profit organizations contribute significantly to our quality of life. From organizations that extend a welcoming hand to newcomers and help Edmontonians who are struggling to arts groups that enrich our lives, the non-profit sector represents the best of Edmonton and Edmontonians,” said Jenny Kain, Senior Project Manager with the City of Edmonton’s Community Services department.
“An additional way business can contribute to Edmonton’s quality of life is by listing the space they have available on Edmonton SpaceFinder so our city's not-for-profit organizations can continue to contribute to our community,” said Thomas Molloy of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce.
Arts Habitat Association of Edmonton General Manager Linda Huffman says the number one need in the arts community is work space. Janina Strudwick of the Multicultural Coalition for Equity in Health and Wellbeing echoes that concern for organizations providing services to newcomers.
“It can be a challenge for non-profit organizations to find affordable space to provide services such as an after school homework club or parenting classes,” said Strudwick.
“Business, government and nonprofits owning or holding space are encouraged to check out this new service as a simple and effective means to lease or rent space to local non-profit and charitable organizations,” said Russ Dahms, Director Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations.
Edmonton SpaceFinder is a collaboration between the Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations, the Multicultural Coalition for Equity in Health and Wellbeing, Arts Habitat Association of Edmonton and the City of Edmonton.
